Digital aka Stephen Carr is one of the UK’s most highly regarded Drum & Bass producers with a career spanning over 20 years and a seminal catalogue of original & innovative releases.
The roots of his signature basslines and dubbed out style can be easily traced to his upbringing immersed in sound system culture. His father ran his own sound system and in the early 90s Stephen hired it out and worked with Danny C at the beginning of the ‘rave scene’ as we now know it.
In 1998 Digital and renowned producer Spirit formed the Phantom Audio record label. Its first release ‘Phantom Force’ became an instant DnB anthem, and 18 years later is still on regular rotation with Andy C, Goldie and co. ‘Deadline’ is another Digital classic and a Bassworx favourite guaranteed to get the Casa Latina crowd hyped!
Digital’s productions span 3 albums and numerous singles / EPs with releases on Metalheadz, Exit, Timeless, 31 Records, C.I.A, Innerground, Commercial Suicide, Ingredients, Dispatch, V Recordings & Chronic! His own label Function Records have put out tracks by Total Science, Q Project, Spirit and Concord Dawn to name a few.
Earlier this year Digital released the 4 part ‘Synthesis’ LP, a Function Records collaboration featuring top artists such as Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Spirit, Om Unit, Need for Mirrors, Total Science, Klute and Villem.
